Referee in Mexico dies after receiving head-butt

A tragic incident occurred on the football field in Mexico, where a referee officiating a local football match in the city of Tulancingo, Hidalgo state on Sunday morning, died after being head-butted by a player.

Fans thought the official had fainted after being knocked unconscious in the assault.
But Red Cross workers were unable to revive him after racing to his aid and discovering he had no pulse.

The AWOL player, who reportedly fled the scene in a pick-up truck amid chaotic scenes as the ref was receiving medical attention, was named locally as Ruben Rivera Vazquez.

As a result, Trejo immediately fainted, and even though the paramedics present at the match tried to revive the victim, it was to no avail as the match official died of ‘widespread subarachnoid hematoma’ caused by a blow to the head, which was confirmed by the emergency services.

The suspect Vazquez is reportedly on the run and multiple police officers have been dispatched to catch the perpetrator.

The news originally appeared on Russia Today.
